KISS - Live In Las Vegas

"You wanted the best and....." SCREW YOU! This is apparently what the producers of this rip-off thought about the legions of loyal KISS fanatics who plopped down fifteen of their hard-earned dineros for this scam job. Just because the DVD cover states that it is KISS in concert, "featuring" the hit songs "Rock And Roll All Nite", "Shout it Out Loud", "God of Thunder", and "Love Gun", and also states a running time of over 90 minutes, doesn't mean that we should reasonably expect this to be a full length concert. Of course not! They were certainly honest about one thing, it does "feature" "Rock And Roll All Nite", "Shout it Out Loud", "God of Thunder", and "Love Gun", but that is ALL it frigging features! All 19 minutes worth.

This performance had been slated for broadcast over the Internet to a worldwide audience. Tickets to the actual live concert, at the Las Vegas MGM Grand, were among the most coveted in history and were reserved for an invitation only guest list that consisted of mostly celebrities and others who were wealthy enough to buy their way in. On the night of the webcast, the computer servers that were being used to broadcast this event, crashed and burned, leaving the fanatical KISS army desperate to see this concert, which had been over-hyped for months.

The actual four song performance wasn't terrible, it was simply KISS running through half-assed performances of four of their best songs, in front of a crowd of people who were there, more because that was the cool place to be that night, than because they were fans of the band. I think the boys in KISS probably realized this and just wanted to hurry and get it over with.

The audio and video quality were both average. The audio recording doesn't appear to be the actual live, unaltered performance, as there were some noticeable sync problems and overdubs. The Dolby 5.1 mix was decent, but hardly spectacular. The video was fairly clear and sharp, and was presented with four different camera angles to choose from, which was a nice feature to have for a KISS show.

There are a number of extras included on the DVD, but non are particularly worth watching. They include footage from the premiere of the Detroit Rock City movie, and from an appearance by Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley at Tower Records in Hollywood to promote the release of the KISS Box Set.

Hey Gene and Paul, how about making it up to your fans who made you billionaires, by remastering some of those circa-1977 concert extravaganzas that made you guys famous.
